- Volsung Cycle
- A series of some twenty Eddic poems covering the same ground as the Nibelungenlied, but much closer to the original sources. The basis of the story is the theft of the treasure of the Nibelungen by the Aesir in order to pay compensation for the murder of the brother of Fafnir. The legacy of treason and murder and the curse of the Nibelungen devolved on Sigurd (Siegfried). There is considerable overlapping between the Thidrek Saga, Volsung, Nibelungen, and to some extent, Beowulf stories, as will be seen from the comparative of characters, as given under Nibelungenlied.
